Year in Review | 2019 Accomplishments

Wednesday, December 18, 2019

In a couple of weeks, not only will 2019 will now be becoming to a close but also the 2010s decade.
This year went by so fast that it felt as if one moment I was getting ready for spring and the next thing I know it's November!

This year has been so good to me, not just in blogging but also in my life from finishing my first year of university to reaching some blogging goals and traveling across my province.
So many things have happened this year that I wanted to share with you.

25 Things to do This Christmas

Friday, November 29, 2019

In a couple of days, it will be December which means: the Christmas season is almost here and there are so many things to do!
Besides the fall season, the holiday season is my favorite. I love the decorations, music, the cookies and everything about the season. For the last couple of weeks between my study sessions (its finals season) I have managed to squeeze in the time to bake and decorate!

Plaid + Sugar turns TWO!! | blog anniversary

Thursday, November 21, 2019

On November 25, 2017, I published the first post on this blog. Back then I was going through a really hard time and had started this blog as a way to cope with my emotions and everything else that was going through my life. I had recently moved across the country to a province that spoke no English and my life was upside down. Now here I am two years later, celebrating my second blog anniversary!!

Plaid and Sugar Book review

It has been snowing on and off for the last couple of days, which (to me) means: Christmas time! For some of you, it may seem a bit early but this time of the year is my favorite. As soon as November hits, I'm planning and baking for the holidays.
Christmas is a time of love, family and the unexpected holiday magic. So today I bring you a book that has all three and will put you in the Christmas spirit.

NYX Bear With Me Collection | Review

Thursday, October 31, 2019

It's the final day of October, and it has been raining nonstop for the last couple of days. But thankfully there is no snow so far (it snows like crazy where I live). But anywho, here is the reason for today's post.

Recently I had the opportunity to try NYX Cosmetic products from their new collection "Bare With Me" which promises that the product will feel lightweight and hydrating while still doing what it is supposed to do.

Falling Leaves Garland | fall craft

Tuesday, October 22, 2019

Time for a craft! Specifically a fall one! One is never too old to do a fun craft, especially when it something so easy and cute. In September I had an idea of buying leaves and making a decor project but had no idea how, until I saw that the leaves were falling outside and it came to me. A garland with leaves on a thread hanging from a branch.
And so I made it. It is seasonal, looks great on a wall as a centerpiece and it is pretty easy to do.

Date Night Essentials Vox Box | Influester Review

Review of multiple skincare and beauty products in the Date Night Essentials Vox Box
Last month I was chosen to partake of the Date Night Essentials Vox Box from Influenster. This campaign is focused on getting ready for one's date night. It included multiple products that I had the opportunity to try out and I decided to write a review post on them.

Garnier Curl Treat Hair Cream | Review

Thursday, August 29, 2019

Curls for days. It is not a phrase I often say but lately, I've noticed that my curls now look better and curlier even on day three or four.

As a curly hair girl, I've always had a hard time trying to get my hair to look like how it is supposed to. Most often then not my hair would end up really oily because of the leave-in products and limp. But this time things have been different.

Lately, I've been using Garnier's new Curl Treat product and have noticed quite a difference in my life. What is my current secret to having curly, soft hair? Garnier's new leave-in conditioner!

How to Ace your First Year of University | Tips + Advice

Tuesday, August 20, 2019

Tips and advice for university students

Summer is coming to an end and so that means that for those of us still continuing our education, the school year will be starting anew.

As a child, this time of year was full of trepidation and excitement. By mid-august, I was bored of doing nothing useful and so going back to school would mean new challenges, while at the same time going back meant that I would probably not be in the same class as my friends or having a not-so-great teacher. It'd be great to say that my mentality has changed but in reality, I still feel those same emotions I felt as a child, especially in my first week of university.

Like I've mentioned before, in April I finished my first year of post-secondary school. When my last class was over and my last essay handed in, I could not believe how fast the year had gone by. To be honest, and somewhat cheesy, I felt like I was not the same person that I was back when I started in September, and I feel that I took advantage of what my school had to offer that first year.
So now that I'm starting my second year I wanted to share some tips on how to ace (or at least do extremely well) in your first year of uni.

Hair Scrunchies Tutorial | Easy DIY

Monday, August 5, 2019

An easy and simple diy on how to make a hair scrunchie by Plaid and SUgar
Love them or hate them, scrunchies are back!

As I child I never understood the dislike for scrunchies. They were always colourful, hard to lose and gentle on my curly hair, unlike other bands. Yes. they were a big part of the 80s-90s culture, and yes they look weird at times but they were much easier to wear than just simple hair bands. So when they made their comeback last year (I think), I welcomed them with open arms.
Now that the scrunchie has officially made a comeback I realized that they could be used as accessory statement pieces and I wanted to try my hand at making some that would match my outfit.

And so I did.

Canada Day at Ottawa | Summer Holidays 2019

Monday, July 15, 2019

Happy Belated Canada Day eh!
The first two weeks of July have come and gone but it gave many great adventures and memories. One of them is the place where I went on the first.

For the first of July, we had the opportunity to drive east and spend Canada Day at Parliament Hill along and see Canada's Capital.
For my readers that are not Canadian, July first is kind of the Independence day of the nation because, on July 1st, 1867 Canada become a country separate from the British Empire.
This year to celebrate it we drove two hours to Ottawa (the nation's capital) and had a really memorable time that included me getting sun roasted.

2019 Mid-Year Update (and Plans for 2nd half)

Monday, July 8, 2019

Hi there! It's finally hot outside, though it is extremely humid and muggy, it does cool down a bit when it rains. Has your area been hit by the non-stop heat wave?

Now that it is July it means that not only are we in summer but the second half of the year has started, and the other half has gone.
In early January I wrote a post about the goals and plans I had for my Plaid + Sugar this year. It's been since months since and so I decided it be a great time to do an update or follow up of what has happened since then and if any of my goals have been achieved.

Plans for Summer | sewing + blogging

Friday, June 28, 2019

Summer has now (officially) begun and I want to make the best of it. Last summer I noticed that when I wrote my plans down for the season I got much more done since I had a written plan and goal of how I would be spending my summer, and therefore I have decided to do the same thing this year.

My overall plan this summer is to use it to its full potential and not let it go to waste which is, unfortunately, a common thing in my life. It is pretty easy to waste one's day online doing nothing, afterward feeling regret and yet the next day doing the same thing.
I have an idea of what I want to do these next two months and by putting pen to paper (or keyboard to document) I know that there is a higher chance I'll do it.

Lemon Pound Cake

Thursday, June 20, 2019

Happy (really belated) June!
We're officially half-way through the year and it feels that around this time I start to dwindle down on blogging. To prevent that from happening I've decided to challenge myself to post more often, but if you're reading this post you'll know that we're halfway through the month, whoops!

It has recently come to my attention that I haven't published a recipe in quite a while (whoops!). I wouldn't say I've just been busy, it because I have forgotten to do it, but I now have a recipe that I'd love to share.

A while ago a came upon a very basic loaf/cake recipe I thought that it was way to too sweet and (honestly) not my cup of tea, or cake in this situation. With a change of ingredients and an addition of some, I fell in love with this recipe, my family loved it and therefore decided to share it with the whole world.

Too Faced Melted Matte-Tallic lipstick Collection | review

Wednesday, May 29, 2019

This is post was interesting to both write and photograph because I am not a beauty blogger or obsessed with makeup. But I do love lipsticks and reviewing, so I deiced to give this type of post a try!

Today I will be reviewing all 14 lipsticks in the Too Faced Melted Matte-tallic lipstick collection which I've had for a while, as I finally had the opportunity to write this post.

Last December, a Youtuber/IG influencer was hosting '12 days of Christmas' giveaways and so I entered her daily giveaways that were mostly PR products that she had received from makeup/lifestyle companies and had never used. One day I got a message from her that I had won a Too Faced PR package of their new lipstick collection!

ZOZO Suit + Free Garments

Wednesday, May 22, 2019

Wouldn't it be great if you were able to get clothing that fits you perfectly? No more bagginess, or tightness, perfectly made to fit your measurements.
I found a company that alleges to do that.

Last fall, I saw on Instagram that the company Zozo was giving out for free a suit that uses some fancy technology to gather one's measurements. I was skeptical about it but nonetheless, I ordered it, mainly because it was free. It did take about 3 weeks for it to arrived and I later noticed that along with the free suit there was an offer that a free shirt and jeans were included for free once I did my measurements. That's right an outfit made to fit my measurements for free no strings attached!

L'Oreal's Pure Clay Mask & Cleanser | Review

Friday, May 10, 2019

Hi everyone!

How is life? Recently the weather here has gotten warmer and the sun is shining (almost) every day, it seems that April's showers did, in fact, bring May flowers. Mother's day is coming up and I still have no idea what to get my mom. But while I dwell on that will get going with today's post.

For some reason I finished the school year and my skin started breaking out, it is dull and I now can't sleep meaning that I look pale and haggard.
To combat the dullness, if nothing else, I started using some L'Oreal products that I had forgotten about and noticed that though my acne wasn't fully gone my skin did look brighter and less 'dead'.

Answering 73 Vogue Inspired Questions

Saturday, May 4, 2019

Bonjourno!
It is now May and all of the rain of April has finally brought about flowers. This week I decided to change things up and make a post that is based around me.
You've all seen those videos where a person from Vogue goes to a famous person's home and asks them a bunch of questions (73 specifically) while following them with a camera so that the world may know them, better, so I decided that I'm going to do that. Well, without the stranger inside my house.

Recent (vintage) Patterns I've Acquired

Friday, April 26, 2019

Happy (Belated) Easter!
I hope you had a great 3- (maybe 4)day holiday and that you were able to spend lot's of time with friends and family while enjoying a lot of food. The last couple of weeks I've been MIA because of finals but I had this post planned for the last couple of weeks but I had not gone around to take the pictures or actually write it down. So here it is.

I love sewing. I may not do it as often I should, especially when finals are around, but nevertheless, I love it so. Another thing I love is thrift stores. Besides going to the library, I like going to thrift stores to relax. Last month, I happened to go to two different thrifts stores and I was surprised to find fabric and patterns, which I immediately bought!

Life and P+S | Update

Monday, April 8, 2019

It's hard to think that it is already April! This coming week I'll be finishing my the semester and therefore concluding my first year of university!!
Since April is nowhere, I thought it would be a good idea to write what has recently happened both in my blog and life.

Barbie Expo | Montreal

Friday, March 29, 2019

As a child, I was obsessed with Barbies. I had sets, outfits, and all types of Barbies. Zoologist, teacher,  model and so much more. I loved how Barbie could be anything she wanted and so she inspired me. As I grew up I put my dolls away but I would always reminisce about the styles she wore and how I wished I could have a fancy Barbie.
I remember going online and seeing some collector's Barbies that cost hundreds of dollars and that were so, so beautiful and wishing to see them face to face. And I finally did it!

Ruby Rose | Statement Made Jewelry

Monday, March 18, 2019

Hi everyone!
Today I'll be doing a small review on a cute necklace and the company that gifted it to me, but before I begin I want to say that it's almost spring! I am so ready for it.
This winter was so snowy and icy and honestly, it is time for it to all go away for six months. Spring also means that my first year of university is coming to an end! This semester has gone by so fast and I can't believe that soon I'll be writing my final essays and exams *ugh* So. Much. Stress.

One of the things that has taken my mind away from school and the onslaught of upcoming work has been this beautiful necklace that I received.  It is so easy to wear and I love how it has my birthstone, making it much more special.

*Though I received this piece for complimentary purposes it does not affect in any way my honest review. I do use affiliates links that come at no extra cost to you but helps me upkeep this blog.

Statement Made Jewellery

I had the opportunity to collaborate with Statement Made Jewelry after I contacted them through Twitter when they posted that they were looking for bloggers. Statement Made Jewellery is an online company based on the U.K that makes the cutest, most delicate, personalized jewellery. They are focused on personalized jewellery that will express who the wearer is.

Paperless Post | Review

Thursday, March 7, 2019

Spring break is now over and I'm already halfway through the semester! I cannot believe how fast this semester had already gone and that I'm now choosing my courses for next year. Life is going fast and I have three birthdays coming up in the family, which means getting everything ready for the multiple parties.
Which leads me to the purpose of this post →
Have you ever tried sending an e-card or invitation only to realize how simple and impersonal they look? Or how hard it is to actually email them?
Well, look no further because Paperless Post is here to help!

FREE Resources I Use for Blogging

Buenos Dias!

For the last couple of months, I've been focusing more on what my blog looks like and my writing than when I began. My focus has been more on quality vs quantity, so I've been trying new techniques and resources that have been helping my blog grow and become something better than I expected.

Since then I had been thinking of writing a post of all of the resources I use on my blog and social media that are free and that makes my life so much easier. And so I did.

70s Maxi Dress | Pattern Review

Tuesday, February 12, 2019

One thing I love is trying out the styles of different areas as each has different things that describe them perfectly so I chose the 1970s.
The 70s seem like an era of smooth, clean lines and flowy garments and fabric patterns that are out of this world. I especially love the long, flowing, fitting designs of the dresses, that look like they should be worn at a beach or in a desert. The pattern that I chose did not disappoint in all of these accounts.
It was an easy sew, it flowed and the fabric was paisley pattern, practically 1970s ready!

Let it Glow Vox Box | Influentster Review

Wednesday, January 30, 2019

About a month and a half ago I was accepted into the Let it Glow Vox Box campaign, my first Influenster box ever. This vox box was centred on taking care of yourself and letting yourself *glow* in these dark, cold days.
I tried out all of the given products and afterwards decided to write a review here on what I thought about the products and their results and if I would buy them.

Sewing Resolutions for 2019 | hopes + plans

Thursday, January 10, 2019

Now that we're less than two weeks into the New Year and I've been thinking about what I will sew this year. Will I make pants or skirts? Russian patterns or English ones? So many options but so little time since I'm at school and have other pressing things.
I decided to write this post as a way for me to remember what I'll be doing throughout the year and to plan ahead. I do not have any firm sewing intentions because like always they can evolve over time.

In my last post, I wrote my blogging goals and plans for this year but since I am a sewist too, it made sense to do some sewing related resolutions for this year.

My 2019 Blogging Goals and Plans

Thursday, January 3, 2019

Happy New Year! It is now 2019!
How was your Nouvelle Anne fĂȘte? I sincerely hope that it was filled with food, family and fun. Now that a new year has begun (2019!!!), it means it is time to plan the next year ahead to be able to get the most out of it possible. I'm a firm believer of planning ahead instead of just guessing along the way (but unfortunately sometimes I forget that)
