Happy May everyone!
Flowers and trees have started to blossom, the weather has warmed up (although as I'm writing this it is lightly snowing!) and we are still in quarantine, but making the best of it. Which in my case is planning the design for my office (well the desk corner in my room). In this post, I will be sharing the inspiration that I've seen on how to decorate the office and how I used it to design the plan.
But before I get into the post, I just wanted to ask: how are you? This quarantine period has certainly been difficult for everyone in different aspects and if you ever need someone to talk to I'm here. If you are feeling overwhelmed or want some tips on how to deal with a stressful situation then please read this post (btw I am no medical expert, these tips came from my own experiences).
Inspo + Design Plans for My Office (well bedroom really)
Last year for my birthday, my parents got me a much-needed desk, and now that I have a place to study that is not the dining room I want to make my office/desk place look pretty. With Pinterest and other sites, to guide me I have an idea of what I want it to look like.
To be honest, I am so excited to finally get an office space that is entirely mine, designed by me!

What I Need (want)
As of now I only have a small lamp that I got on clearance for $3, the desk, and a chair that is not very comfortable. So yeah, it is a bit bare. Also, A couple of years ago (before the desk), I had started to paint the wall with a fleur de Lis design in gold, and since it took forever to do I will not be painting it over, but instead finishing it. The overall design idea is one where I can be productive, which is colourful and that feels me with joy.
The desk sits against a wall that has no shelving or anything, so one of the things I want is maybe two small shelves where I can put small decorative boxes filled with documents or other decor items. On the wall or shelf, I would like a couple minimalist but colourful paintings/portraits that brighten the are like this one* or this*.
On Pinterest, I've seen lots of wire wall grids where on can clip papers, pictures, and other small items. I love using sticky notes (currently stuck on the wall) for little to-do lists, or reminders and so the wall grid would make it look cleaner and prettier. Maybe a corkboard?

My desk (the medium Micke from Ikea) has two drawers and a cabinet, so I'm not looking for much storage space, as I have that covered.
Lighting. Like mentioned I have a $3 lamp and although it works great it is a bit small and so I would like to get a bigger (cuter) one. It is vital to have good lighting when studying and writing, so it is in a way more important than the shelving etc.
Finally, a comfortable chair. The chair I currently use makes my hips, knees, and back hurt more than usual (yay chronic pain!), so along with a good lamp I need a really comfortable chair.

The Inspo
One of my favorite things is to look at Pinterest and home decor catalogs (The Bay, Pottery Barn, Homesense among others) for inspiration and ideas.
The white/grey color scheme picture is from Pinterest one is more to my liking as it has a simple shelf idea and a corkboard. The pink wall, white desk inspo is from Homesense, and I love the general color scheme and the simple, feminine design.

My (tentative) Design Plan
After looking at countless images and finding inspiration, I sat down and used HomeStyler, which is free and easy to use site, to design and plan my office idea. It is not a hundred perfect or accurate (see the makeshift Micke desk) but it did help give me a general idea of how what could fit in my little office area.
Hopefully, once we are able to go out again, I will be able to buy the rest of the items I need (I prefer shopping in person, touching and weighing items) and there will be a follow-up post!
Do you have a dream office space? What would it have?

Thank you, Rakayle! It was hard to design as my office space is really one side of my room and don't have lots of space 😂
DeleteThese are lovely inspiration rooms! I hope you get your office space set up how you want it soon! I am lucky that the office was one of the first rooms hubby and I completed when we moved into the house - as we'd build our house he knew exactly what furniture was needed and where and it was so quick to get it all together! :) It's come in really helpful with having a space I can work from home, but not be too far from the kids who play in the next room :)
ReplyDeleteHope your week is off to a good start :) With all the restrictions being relaxed here in Brisbane, my son is back at school this week!
